In 2000, The Asia Foundation set up a 501(C) 3 entity,
Give2Asia (G2A) to help Asia countries mobilize their
resources. Give2Asia is nonprofit and because of its tax
status, grants that made through are tax deductible. Asia
nonprofit organizations can work within their network
to raise funds from their American friends or relatives
who can get tax credit. By doing this, Asian countries
not only can expand their funding sources, but get their
charitable work recognized
Eligibility has to be met in order to accept the funds
via G2A. They have to
- Be officially registered with
the government agency.
- Present the latest annual
report.
- Present a recent audited financial
report.
- Have a program description
as to how funds will be used.
- Present a brief organization
introduction or a pamphlet.
Give2Asia runs advertisement
in major U.S. newspaper and media. In 2001, Himalaya
Foundation here in Taiwan funded a grant that particularly
campaigned for Taiwanese nonprofit organizations within
Chinese/Taiwanese American communities such as the Bay
area in San Francisco, New York City, and etc. Since
the inception of G2A, Taiwan's nonprofit organizations
have been very active in seeking American friends for
funds via G2A. Among which, Cloud Gate Dance Group,
Kaohsiung Medical University as well as Nantou Lifeline
Association have been very successful in raising funds
in the U.S.
The Asia Foundation in Taiwan here will continue its
effort in introducing this effective way of resource
mobilization to Taiwan nonprofit organizations. Organizations
or individuals that are interested in giving please
