Through increasing
participation in public affairs and promotion of important public
issues, Taiwan citizens have contributed to the growth and development
of nonprofit organizations (NPO) in Taiwan. Taiwan NPOs help
resolve the problems and challenges faced by a swiftly evolving
society, promote social vitality, and develop and nurture a
more equitable and stable society. They do not have the burdens
that are often encountered by the government and business. In
the age of globalization, their affiliation with international
NPOs can also contribute to the international social projects.
One of the program themes of AFIT is facilitating NPO development.
By initiating positive viable projects, AFIT contributes to
establishing a respectable legal and policy environment for
the development of the NPO sector in Taiwan. The NPO sector
in Taiwan faces the following challenges: an immature legal
environment; absence of a training mechanism for NPO management
and capacity building; and the limitations of human resources.
These challenges create real barriers for NPO development. In
order to overcome these obstacles and improve environment for
NPO development, AFIT promotes projects that focus on four major
areas:
A. To establish a healthy NPO legal environment
B. To increase NPO management capacity
C. To promote NPO transparency and accountability
D. To mobilize essential social resources
